Pontinus vaughani Barnhart & Hubbs, 1946.
Spotback Scorpionfish. To 57 cm (22.4 in) TL (Robertson and Allen 2002). Isla de Cedros, central Baja California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) to Peru (Zeballos Flor et al. 1998), including southwest part of Gulf of California, Islas Revillagigedo (Robertson and Allen 2002), and Islas Galápagos (McCosker and Rosenblatt 2010). Benthic; depth: 30–120 m (100–394 ft) (min.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California; max.: Zeballos Flor et al. 1998).
