Description

Dytaster intermedius Perrier, 1891 Reports for the Azores:

Dytaster intermedius $ Perrier, 1891: 271, 1896a: 48, pl. 3, figs. 2, 2a, 2b; Mortensen 1927: 55; A.M. Clark & Downey 1992: 54–55; García–Diez et al. 2005: 46.

Type locality: Azores (41°40’41”N, 29°04’23”W).

Occurrence: known only from the type material collected in Azores (Perrier 1896a).

Depth: 2,870 m (AZO, Perrier 1896a).

Habitat: soft sediments (muddy sand, Perrier 1896a).

Remarks: A.M. Clark & Downey (1992) believed that this species might represent a juvenile of another Dytaster species. According to our knowledge the question is still pending and the type material of D. intermedius has not been revised to date.
