Open
PLATO-Gaia synergy for studying transiting exoplanets
Description
By the time PLATO launches, Gaia data is assumed to be all public,
including the epoch data of photometry, astrometry and radial velocities
(RV). These data offer many possibilities for augmenting PLATO findings. The
high angular resolution of Gaia provides separate light curves of stars
included in the wide PSF of PLATO, thus allowing immediate elimination of
false positives by background eclipsing binaries and, in other cases,
confirming that the PLATO transits are indeed originating from the target
stars. A similar synergy between Gaia and TESS is already taking place
using non-public Gaia data, some results are given in this presentation.
Finally, we show the first transiting exoplanet detected by Gaia - Gaia-1 b.
