Supporting Open Science - Services for Openness Across the Research Cycle

Heino, Tiina; Holopainen, Mika; Larmo, Katri

Helsinki University Library supports open science in all stages of research. Many of the services are already established and in use, some are under development and some on an idea stage.

We work in teams: teams for research data, metrics and open access have a central role in open science, although at least equally important is the contribution of information literacy teaching, customer services and information technology.

In our poster, we present the services connected to the research process: from planning the research to reuse of the data and visibility services of the publications.

The services covered are e.g. guidance in research data management, support for self-archiving and open access publishing (Helda - open repository, Terkko/Viikki ePrints, Tuhat-research information system), educating open science for doctoral students (“Managing Scientific Information” course for Doctoral School in Health Sciences), visibility services (such as Scholar Chart, Top Cited @UH, PlumX), marketing, promoting and raising awareness (events & pop up information stands), purchasing memberships (such as BMC, PeerJ & Springer Open) and networking nationally as well as internationally.
