A study of Cepheids in open clusters in the Gaia eDR3 era

Description
Classical Cepheids in open clusters are valuable ingredients for studies concerning young stellar populations (Cepheids are tracers of young and massive populations and of recent star formation episodes), cluster dynamics, and for the calibration of the period-luminosity and period-age relation of Cepheids (among other uses). However, in spite of the evident relevance of these stars for such studies, after decades of dedicated efforts a relatively small number of them has been reported to be bona fide Galactic cluster Cepheids. In this contribution, we present the results of an all-sky search for classical Cepheids in Galactic open clusters using state-of-the-art data, taking advantage of the unprecedented astrometric precision of the (early) third data release of the Gaia mission. Together with the description of our methodology, based on the spatial distribution and kinematics of Cepheids and clusters, we briefly discuss the implications of our findings and their impact in the current understanding of the birthplace of Cepheids and their fundamental properties.
