D5.1 – Human factors identification

  • 1. Research Institute Diabetes Academy Mergentheim

Description

This report summarises the work carried out within WP 5, namely “Human factors and ethical implications”. The goal of this task was to identify relevant human factors as well as possible perceived benefits and barriers associated with the BIP (Bionic Invisible Pancreas). Human factors consist of potentially influencing aspects for acceptance, device uptake, and continuous and effective use in socio-technical systems and human-machine systems. In this case, human factors could only be applied in a limited way, since the BIP will be a paradigm shift in the treatment of diabetes. For the same reason, analyzing human factors specifically related to the BIP is important also in view of conditioning further developments for the uptake of BIP. In order to achieve the task goals, semi-structured interviews on different topics related to BIP were conducted, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. Overall, participants highly appreciated the development of the BIP and were eager to learn more about the project. These results are now used to develop an assessment tool to select participants who will likely benefit the most from the BIP.
