QGIS plugin for the practical exercises included in the book "Land Use Cover Datasets and Validation Tools"

  • 1. Departamento de Observación y Estudio de la Tierra, la Atmósfera y el Océano. El Colegio de la Frontera Sur, Mexico

Description

This dataset includes the MapAccurAssess QGIS plugin, which is required to carry out the practical exercises in chapters 6 (Sample data for accuracy assessment) and 8 (Metrics from Cross Tabulation matrix to validate Land UseCover maps) of the book “Land Use Cover Datasets and Validation Tools”, available in open access.

MapAccurAssess is a plugin developed for Qgis 3.0+, which can be used to calculate the accuracy assessment statistics (e.g., Overall, User’s and Producer’s accuracy metrics) and the confusion matrix for Land Use Cover (LUC) maps, following the recommendations made by Olofsson et al. (2013).

The plugin allows the user to create a random sample of reference points for validating LUC maps and for calculating the confusion matrix and accuracy assessment statistics for a specific map. These assessment statistics include: the Overall, User’s and Producer’s accuracy metrics; the thematic class area; the area adjusted by error level; and the confidence intervals for the adjusted area.

The dataset includes a .zip file with the plugin, ready to be installed in QGIS, as well as a manual in Spanish explaining the characteristics of the plugin and how to use it. For further information on the plugin and its use, users are referred to the aforementioned chapters of the book “Land Use Cover Datasets and Validation Tools”.
