Wakarumbia aurea Dvorak & Bocak 2009, sp. nov.

Description

Wakarumbia aurea sp. nov.

(Figs 1–2)

Type material. Holotype. Male, C. Sulawesi, 38 km SE of Pendolo vill., 1200 m, 119.46.55E 2.14.03S, 10.– 11. July 2001, Bolm lgt. (LMBC). Paratype. 1 female, ditto (LMBC).

Differential diagnosis. The brightly yellow elytra are characteristic for two species from the central Sulawesi: W. amporiwensis Bocak, 2001 and W. aurea sp. nov. These species differ in the shape of the basal part of their phallus which is very short and abruptly widened in W. amporiwensis and much slenderer in W. aurea (Figs 1–2). These species differ externally in the black apex of elytra in W. aurea and uniformly yellow elytra in W. amporiwensis, but the coloration of the net-winged beetles is often variable and dissection of the male genitalia is necessary for a reliable identification.

Description. Body small to medium sized, thorax, cranium and elytra except very small apical part brightly yellow, tarsi, apexes of tibiae and abdomen light brown. Head small, partly hidden by pronotum, eyes large, hemispherically prominent, eye diameter 1.18 times eye distance. Pronotum flat, 1.21 times wider than long at midline, disc shining, covered with dense short pubescence. Antennae compressed, antennomeres 3– 11 parallel-sided to slightly serrate, antennomere 3 2.5 times longer than maximum width, apical antennomeres apparently slenderer. Elytra parallel-sided, 3.64 times longer than width at humeri, with regular rectangular reticulate cells, elytral costae with long erect setae. Male genitalia with robust basal part, narrower in middle part, apical third wide (Figs 1–2).

Measurements. BL 5.50 mm, HW 1.25 mm, PL 0.70 mm, PW 0.85 mm, EL 4.55 mm, Ediam 0.39 mm, Edist 0.33 mm.

Distribution. Sulawesi, the vicinity of the Pendolo lake.

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the coloration of the pronotum and elytra.
