Type material: ZMB, Reference number 22562
Distribution: Widely distributed in the Southern oceans; South Georgia, Falkland Islands, South Africa, Bellingshausen Sea, Antarctic Peninsula (Brandt et al. 1998).
Distribution in New Zealand: South of Chatham Islands (Tattersall O.S. 1955).
Ecology: Mesopelagic, deep water; 200–500 m (Illig 1930).
