Description

Genus Lispe Latreille, 1797

Lispe Latreille, 1797: 169. (Without included species.) Type-species: Musca tentaculata De Geer, 1776, by subsequent monotypy (Latreille, 1802: 462).

Lispe apicalis Mik, 1869

Lispe apicalis Mik, 1869: 33. Type-locality: Austria, Vienna, Brigittenau. Syntypes 2♂, NMW.

Siberian records: Novosibirskaya Oblast’ (Sorokina, 2006a: 229).

General distribution: Palaearctic Region, from Europe east to north-west China.

Note: Re-examination of the material upon which the record from the Novosibirskaya Oblast’ was based shows that it was probably misidentified, but work to establish its identity is ongoing.

Lispe canadensis Snyder, 1954: 29. Type-locality: Canada, Northwest Territories, Chesterfield. Holotype ♂, CNC (Cooper & Cumming, 2000: 80).

Siberian records: North Respublika Sakha [Yakutiya]: Verchoyansk, Bagatay (Sychevskaya, 1972: 145, 148, identification queried); East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 185).

General distribution: East Siberia and Nearctic Region (Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Labrador).

Lispe consanguinea Loew, 1858

Lispe consanguinea Loew, 1858: 8. Type-localities: Germany and Sweden. Syntypes 7♂ 3♀, ZMHU (Pont & Werner, 2006: 36).

Siberian records: River Nizhnyaya Tunguska, Mt. Lavrushi, Respublika Sakha: probably Yakutsk [as “Jakut.” in German] (Hennig, 1960a: 429); East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 186).

General distribution: Palaearctic Region, from Europe east to Japan, and also Pakistan.

Lispe cotidiana Snyder, 1954: 22. Type-locality: Canada, Alberta, Suffield. Holotype ♂, AMNH (Huckett, 1975: 34).

Siberian records: Respublika Buryatiya, Zabaykal’e [Transbaikalia], Kyakhta [as “Troitzkosawsk” in German] and Nerchinsk (Hennig, 1960a: 430); East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 186).

General distribution: East Palaearctic Region: Russia (East Siberia and Far East), Mongolia, China (Qinghai), and Nearctic Region.

Lispe flavinervis Becker, 1904: 20. Type-locality: China, Qinghai, Baingol, River Kurlyk. Lectotype ♀, ZIN (designated by Pont, 2004: 75).

Siberian records: Sverdlovskaya Oblast’, Nevyansk (Becker, 1913: 125); Urals (Hennig, 1960b: 434; Zimin & El’berg, 1970: 555); West Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 186).

General distribution: Russia (South-east European Territory, West Siberia), Mongolia, China (Qinghai).

Lispe frigida Erichson, 1851

Lispe frigida Erichson in Middendorf, 1851: 67. Type-locality: Russia, East Siberia, south of Taymyr Peninsula, River Boganida. Holotype ♀, ZIN (Pont, 2004: 75).

Lispe parcespinosa Becker, 1900: 47. Type-locality: Russia, West Siberia, Yenisey estuary, Nikandrik Island. Syntypes 1♀, ZMH, and 1♂, ZMHU (Pont & Werner, 2006: 800).

Siberian records: Taymyr Peninsula, River Boganida (Erichson in Middendorff, 1851: 67, type-locality of frigida); Nikandrik Island, Yenisey estuary (Becker, 1900: 47, type-locality of parcespinosa; Becker, 1904: 52); Siberia (Becker, 1904: 55); north-west Siberia (Zimin & El’berg, 1970: 554); West and East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 186).

General distribution: Holarctic Region; rare in Europe, Russia (Siberia) and North China.

Lispe melaleuca Loew, 1847

Lispe melaleuca Loew, 1847: 28. Type-locality: Italy, Sicily. Syntypes 4♂ 2♀, ZMHU, 1♂ 1♀, ZIN, and 1♂, OUMNH (all seen by Pont, 2004: 77; Pont & Werner, 2006: 67).

The record given by Hennig (1960b: 446) from south of Lake Baykal (Priyutsk Kol. west of Almatinka Semir), upon which subsequent records from East Siberia are based (Zimin & El’berg, 1970: 554; Pont, 1986a: 188), should be deleted from the Siberian list as this locality is actually in Kazakhstan.

General distribution: Palaearctic Region, from Europe east to China, and also the north-west of the Oriental Region (Kashmir).

Lispe pygmaea Fallén, 1825b: 94. Type-locality: Sweden, Skåne, Äsperöd. Lectotype ♂, NHRS (designated by Pont, 1984b: 292).

Siberian records: Kurganskaya Oblast’ (Sorokina, 2006a: 230); Irkutskaya Oblast’, Slyudyanskiy Rayon, Lake Baykal, Kultuk and Respublika Buryatiya, Ust Kiran (as “ Insel des Tschikoi-Flusses” in German) (Hennig, 1960b: 452–453); Pribaykal’e (Zimin & El’berg, 1970: 556); West and East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 189).

General distribution: Palaearctic Region, from Europe east to the Russian Far East; also Oriental and Afrotropical (Sudan, Cape Verde Is) Regions.

Lispe superciliosa Loew, 1861: 351. Type-localities: Poland, Silesia, and Austria, Carinthian Alps. Syntype 1♂, ZMHU (Pont & Werner, 2006: 102).

Siberian records: Sverdlovskaya Oblast’, Nevyansk (Hennig, 1960b: 456); Urals (Canzoneri & Meneghini, 1966: 127; Zimin & El’berg, 1970: 554); Novosibirskaya Oblast’ (Sorokina, 2006a: 230); Irkutskaya Oblast’, Slyudyanskiy Rayon, Lake Baykal, Kultuk and Yakutsk (Hennig, 1960b: 456); Central Respublika Sakha [Yakutiya]: Yakutsk, Khomustakh nasleg (Sychevskaya, 1972: 148); West and East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 190).

General distribution: Palaearctic Region, from Europe east to Russia (East Siberia) and north-west China.

Lispe tentaculata (De Geer, 1776)

Musca tentaculata De Geer, 1776: 86. Type-locality: Sweden, Uppland, Lövsta district. Syntypes,?sex, not in NHRS, presumed destroyed (Persson, Pont & Michelsen, 1984: 93).

Siberian records: Novosibirskaya Oblast’ (Sorokina, 2006a: 230); Yamalo-Nenetskiy AO: Salekhard [as “Obdorsk”], Respublika Sakha [Yakutiya]: Yakutsk, Olenek village, Darbinskaya on east bank of River Lena and River Lena at 66 o 26'N (Hennig, 1960b: 458); valley of River Yenisey, forest steppe: Krasnoyarskiy Kray (Minusinsk, Shushenskoe), Respublika Tyva (Kyzyl, Cherbi) (Sychevskaya, 1974: 129); West and East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 190).

General distribution: Holarctic, Neotropical (Guadeloupe I., Guatemala, Peru) and Oriental (India (Kashmir) and Pakistan) Regions; in the Palaearctic Region, from Europe east to Japan.

Lispa uliginosa Fallén, 1825b: 93. Type-locality: Sweden, Västergötland. Lectotype ♂, NHRS (designated by Pont, 1984b: 294).

Siberian records: Urals, Yamalo-Nenetskiy AO: Salekhard [as “Obdorsk”], Respublika Sakha [Yakutiya] (Hennig, 1960b: 460); Kurganskaya Oblast’ (Sorokina, 2006a: 230); Central Respublika Sakha [Yakutiya]: Yakutsk, Khomustakh nasleg (Sychevskaya, 1972: 148); Siberia (Zimin & El’berg, 1970: 554); West and East Siberia (Pont, 1986a: 191).

General distribution: Holarctic Region; in the Palaearctic, from Europe east to the Russian Far East.
