15. Discus whitneyi (NEWCOMB, 1864), Forest Disc
[syn. Discus cronkhitei NEWCOMB, 1865]
V e r b r e i t u n g: DurchAlaska und Canada südwärts bis California bzw. Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Kentucky; in Montana beiderseits der Continental Divide weit verbreitet; in mittleren bis hohen Lagen, zwischen etwa 540-2.580 m, gelegentlich auch darüber (New Mexico: bis etwa 3.040 m; Lincoln Co., unter Pappeln).
H a b i t a t e: Bewaldete Gebiete von mesisch bis relativ trocken; sie zeigt eine deutliche Bevorzugung von Pappel-Laubstreu (Populus tremuloides); ausserdem in Laubmischwäldern, Laub-Coniferen-Mischwäldern, auch relativ trockenen Nadelwäldern (seltener): auf Nasswiesen mit Salix herbacea und dichten Carex- Matten; am Rand von Sümpfen, Sumpfwiesen, Rinnsalen, Sphagnum -Mooren, Sickerflächen, entlang von Flüssen; gelegentlich in Stadtgebieten. Sie lebt in dicker Laubstreu, im lockeren Humus, unter und in Totholz, unter Steinen, in Felsspalten, in Anschwemmungen, auf Kalk und Granit; lokal abundant.
