Indian records. West Bengal —Ganges River — Bilgrami (1991a); Kerala coast— Robin et al. (2009), Tamil Nadu — Manikannan et al. (2011).

Remarks. Valid species described from Europe (Lilljeborg 1853). Records from the Indian Ocean need to be revised.

Distribution. Predominantly in the Arctic Ocean and North Atlantic Ocean up to 40ºN (Rivier 1998).
