Lexico-semantic Content of the Concept "Music" in Modern Polish Internet Media

On the basis of journalistic texts taken from modern Polish Internet media “WP.PL muzyka” and “Onet muzyka”, was analyzed the lexico-semantic content of the concept “music” in Internet-mediated communication. Mass media have occupied their niche in virtual space, and hold to the great popularity among users, which accounts for the necessity to thoroughly examine of the linguistic peculiarities of such media in the dynamics of the lexical element of the Polish language of the early 21st century. The lexemes verbalizing the defined concept were grouped into two semantic centers: the common names and the proper names. According to the thematic principle, 12 groups of musical terms were identified. Identified was the productivity of common names characteristic of musical terminological system, namely, words denoting the type of a musical piece; names for people engaged in musical activity; lexemes signifying the varieties of musical performances; accompanying elements of the musical process; results of musical activity; words indicating the location of a musical performance; names of musical instruments and musical styles. Among the proper names verbalizing the concept “music” were selected first names and last names of singers, musicians, and composers; names of musical pieces; names of specific locations  associated with musical texts, their authors and performers; names of theaters, festivals, and awards. It was concluded that, modern musical terminology is non-homogeneous in its origin, and is open for borrowings despite the native character of the nominative basis. In the view of the above mentioned, required is a more detailed analysis of the derivation of musical terms, which constitutes a perspective for further research.
