Description

Neotrichina elegans (Bigot, 1888)

Ocydromyia elegans Bigot, 1888: 21.

Holotype. Male (not at MNHN and UMO, presumably lost), “environs de la baie Orange” (see Remarks).

Distribution. Chile: Región de Magallanes: Antártica Chilena Province (Bahía Orange).

References. Bezzi, 1905: 458 (com.); Melander, 1928: 70 (list); Collin, 1933: 36 (com., possible Trichin a); Stuardo, 1946: 114 (cat., Ocydromyia); Smith, 1967: 14 (cat.); Sinclair & Cumming, 2000: 181 (tax., Neotrichina).

Remarks. Bigot (1888: 1) stated that specimens studied by him were collected at the surroundings of Orange Bay, located East of Hardy peninsula, Hoste Island; the locality is approximately 55°31’S / 68°03’W, in the Chilean territory.
