Type species. Clarencia chelata K.H. Barnard, 1931, by original designation.

Etymology. The genus is named for Mike Thurston in recognition of his contribution to amphipodology.

Included species. Thurstonella includes 1 species: T. chelata (K.H. Barnard, 1931).
