Description
Entomobrya multisetis Jordana & Baquero sp. nov.

Type material. Holotype: female on slide, RUSSIA, North Caucasus, Ingushetia, Jairah District, near Armhi (coordinates 42.807918, 44.707335, 1338 m a.s.l.), 19.iv.2018, hand collection from litter from deciduous forest, sample code: CAU2018-3 R-01, Kuznetsova N. and Potapov M. leg. Paratypes (same data as Holotype): one female on a slide (CAU2018-3 R-02), and 13 specimens in ethyl alcohol (CAU2018-3 R-03 to 15), one female on a slide (CAU2018-2 R-01), litter from a pine forest; one juvenile on a slide (CAU- 2018-6-01) and seven small specimens in ethyl alcohol (CAU 2018-6-02 to 08), litter from a pine forest, funnel extraction, 18.iv.2018; one female on a slide (CAU 2018-7-01) and another specimen in ethyl alcohol (CAU 2018-7-02), rotten wood in a pine forest, funnel extraction, 18.iv.2018. In the same locality of holotype: one male on a slide (CAU 2018-10-01), coordinates 42.807015, 44.726117, 1161 m a.s.l., Lyzhginsky waterfall, rocky pine wood, moss and lichen, 19.iv.2018; one female on a slide (CAU 2018-15-01), coordinates 42.835882, 44.881411, 1640 m a.s.l., Jairah-Sunja Track, Koloi Laam-Keli, Tetrkikali River Valley (Assa River tributary), south slope, rarefied Koch pine and juniper needles, un- der a juniper, 19.iv.2018. All Kuznetsova N., Potapov M. and Kremenitsa A. leg.
Additional material. RUSSIA, North Caucasus, Chechnya, Itum-Kalinsky District (between Itum-Kali and Veduchi), (coordinates 42.710867, 45.554953, 1020m a.s.l.), 20.iv.2018, forest on the slope (lime-tree, oak, poplar, hazelnut), litter, sifting, hand collection, one female on a slide (CAU2018-15 R-01) and one specimen in ethyl alcohol (CAU2018-15 R-02); Dagestan, Buinak district (center), ~ 4km without reaching the Gimrin Tunnel, valley of the Cholpu-Ozen stream, (coordinates 42.785318, 46.979158, 864.9 m a.s.l., beech-oak forest, rotten wood funnel extraction, one female on a slide (CAU2018-37 - 01). All Kuznetsova N., Potapov M. and Kremenitsa A. leg.
Diagnosis. Plurichaetotic species with a great variation in the macrochaetotaxy of the considered areas. The head sutural row, with a high number of Mc, is very characteristic. Simplified Mc formula (Jordana & Baquero 2005): 3(4)-1(3)-0-3-1b/12-14(16)/2-9/0-2-2/plurichaetotic.
Description. Body length (excluding antennae) 2.10 mm (n= 9), up to 2.55mm (Holotype). Ground color pale violet, with pigment on frontal head and lateral body from Th II to Abd II, and whole body from Abd II–VI, antennae, and legs; paler small patches on Abd II–IV (Fig. 2A); furca pale.
Head. Eight eyes, GH smaller than EF (Fig. 4A). Antennae length 1.54 mm, 3.2–3.8 times the length of the head (n =5); Ant IV with simple or bilobed apical vesicle and bifurcate pin chaeta present (Fig. 4B); sensory organ of Ant III with the special sensilla long-ovoidal, and three guards additional sensilla (Fig. 4C); Ant II with three special sensilla, similar to those on Ant III (Fig. 4D); relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV= 1/1.58/1.49/1.94 (n =5). Prelabral chaetae ciliated. Labral papillae rounded with a long triangular projection sometimes bifurcated (Fig. 4E). Lateral process of labial papilla E not reaching the apex of the papilla. Maxillary palp bifurcate, with three sublobal chaetae. Labial row with –MRELL, r 1/2 and E 2/3 of M, all ciliated.
Body. Abd IV/III length ratio = 6.3 (between 4.7–8.0; n= 7). Trochanteral organ with approximately 50 chaetae. Tibiotarsus not sub-segmented, without smooth chaetae, except for smooth terminal chaeta on legs III (similar in length to claw), but with two rows of wide chaetae with short ciliation. Claw with four teeth: paired at 60% and first unpaired at 75 % from the base, subterminal tooth minute; dorsal teeth between lateral and base, and laterals intermediate between ventral paired and base (Fig. 4F). Empodium lanceolate, with smooth external lamella (pe) in the leg III but with a small tooth, and slightly serrated in leg I and II. Tenent hair is clavate, longer than the claw. Length of manubrium and dens 0.55 and 0.60mm, respectively (average for n= 6). Manubrial plate with 10–14 chaetae and two pseudopores. Mucro with teeth similar in size, mucronal spine reaching the tip of the subapical tooth; area not crenulated of dens two times the length of mucro.
Macrochaetotaxy (Figs 4A, G–I). Simplified Mc formula: 3(4)-1(3)-0-3-1b/12-14(16)/2-9/0-2-2/plurichaetotic. Head: H1 area with Mc An 2, An 3a1, and An 3 and sometimes an additional chaeta; H2 area with one Mc (A 5), sometimes with A 6 or A 7; sutural series (S) with 30-31 Mc, asymmetric; H5 area with Ps 2 and Ps 5 Mc. Mesothorax (Th II): area T1 with 12 Mc; T2 with 14–16 Mc (a 5 and a 5’, and m 5; 11–12 in the m 4 group, and an additional Mc above m 5 in one specimen). Abdomen: Abd I with 14–18 Mc (and with asymmetries in a single specimen), and with sensilla acc in two different positions; Abd II area A1 with two Mc (a 2 and a 3), area A2 with 9 Mc (only in one specimen, asymmetrically, two additional chaetae are present); Abd III without Mc on A3, and two Mc on areas A4 (a 2 and a 3) and A5 (m 3 and m 3e), a 6, m 6, m 7 and p 6 as Mc, ‘s’ between m 6 and p 6, ‘ms’ interior, bothriotricha surrounded by small microchaetae (m 2 with 10); Abd IV with plurichaetosis; AbdV with three sensilla.
Habitat. It is a common species of the litter of montane deciduous forests. The species is widely distributed in the East Caucasus.
Etymology. The specific epithet refers to many macrochaetae on Th II and in the sutural area of the head.
Remarks. Compared with the twelve species that share the dorsal macrochaetotaxy of Abd III (E. armeniensis Jordana, Potapov & Baquero, 2011 in Jordana et al. 2011a, E. cheni Baquero, Arbea & Jordana, 2010 in Baquero et al. 2010a, E. chooyuae Yosii, 1971, E. fjellbergi Baquero & Jordana, 2008, E. handschini Stach, 1922, E. hirsutothorax Jordana & Baquero sp. nov., E. iraqensis Jordana & Baquero, 2010, E. kuznetsovae Jordana, Potapov & Baquero, 2011 in Jordana et al. 2011a, E. murreensis Yosii & Ashraf, 1965, E. pazaristei Denis, 1933, E. strigata Stach, 1963, E. taigicola Jordana, Potapov & Baquero, 2011 in Jordana et al. 2011a), it can be separated from them by the general dorsal macrochaetotaxy and other morphological characters shown in Table 2. The new species have 12 and 14–16 Mc on T1 and T2 areas (Th II) respectively, while the remaining species have less. The new species have 9 Mc on area A2 (Abd II), while the remaining species have seven or fewer Mc. The new species has a different color pattern from the other species. Some of these species have dark pigment arranged as longitudinal stripes: five (E. hanschini, E. hirsutothorax), three (E. fjellbergi, E. iraquensis), two and lateral (E. chooyuae, E. murreensis), two totally lateral (E. armeniensis) or two only on the posterior part of the body (E. pazaristei). Other species have transversal stripes: moderately broad (E. strigata), very narrow (E. cheni, with a pale general pattern); one has pigment only on posterior dorsal Abd IV (E. kuznetsovae). E. taigicola is yellow without any additional pigment.
