Tubercles L on abdominal terga III and IV with 4 and 7–8 chaetae respectively. Tubercles Di on thoracic tergum V separate. Cryptopygy absent.

Etymology. The new species is dedicated to Dr. Anatoly Babenko, Russian collembologist, ecologist and taxonomist, the World specialist in Arctic Collembola.

a) Cephalic chaetotaxy.

Description. Body length (without antennae): 0.6–2.37 mm (holotype: 1.75 mm). Habitus typical of the Neanurini (Cassagnau 1989). Colour of the body greyish-blue. 3+3 relatively large, dark–pigmented eyes (Figs 1, 5).

Types of dorsal ordinary chaetae: macrochaetae Ml thickened, narrowly sheathed, distinctly serrated and apically pointed or rounded (Fig.); Mc and Mcc thickened, pointed or rounded at apex; mesochaetae thin and pointed.

Head. Buccal cone short and rounded at apex. Labrum chaetotaxy 4/2, 4 (Fig. 3), ventral sclerifications as in Fig. 2. Chaetotaxy of labium as in Fig. 2 and in Tab. 1. Maxilla styliform, mandible thin and tridentate. Chaetotaxy of antennae as in Tab. 1. Apical bulb distinct, trilobed. S-chaetae subequal, long and moderately thickened. Chaetotaxy of head as in Figs 1–2, 5 and in Tab. 1. Tubercles Dl, L and So separated (Figs 1, 5). Tubercles Di and De not fused. Chaeta O present, chaetae D, E and Di2 free (Figs 1, 5). Chaeta A shorter than B.

Thorax, abdomen, legs. Chaetotaxy of th. and abd. as in Figs 1, 4–7 and in Tab. 1. Tubercles Di and De on th. I fused (Figs 1, 5). Tubercles De on th. II and III with 4 and 5 chaetae respectively (Figs 1, 5–6). Tubercle L on abd. IV with 7–8 chaetae, two chaetae free (Fig. 4). S-chaetae shorter than nearby macrochaetae. Tubercles Di on abd. IV–V separated along midline and not fused with other tubercles. Chaetae Vl and L’ on abd. V present (Fig. 4). Cryptopygy absent (Figs 1, 7). Chaetotaxy of legs as in Tab. 1. Claw untoothed.

Discussion. The new species is most similar to Kalanura stebaevae sp. nov. (described below), and differences between them are given in the key.
