Fado, saudade and tragedy

This paper propose an inquiry into the philosophical dimension of fado as musical expression of Saudade and tragic though. A thoughtful review of the fado`s history and its cultural foundation will develop a philosophical view of the Portuguese musical genre from the Nietzschean tragic thought. Therefore is conceived as an expression of the tragic sense of life of the Portuguese people and excellent example of how a music genre can let the world betray the image of a country or cultural identity.
