ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 176 (key), 180 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi … in apennino [Parmese territory … Apennines (Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing right mid-leg, the other covered with mold and missing left hindleg), 3 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing right mid-leg) (MZUF: Box 12): Chetogena Rnd. / acuminata Rnd. / 610; 1 ♀, syntype (MZUF: Box D): Chetogena acuminata R., 250, ♀, Parma / 393 250; 1 ♀, syntype (missing right hind-leg) (OUMNH General Collection: Box 167.02): syntype / Type / C. acuminata Ex. Coll. Big. / Chetogena acuminata Rond. det. Hertig / C. acuminata ♂ [sic!] Europe Rond. / Verrall-Collin Palaearctic coll. Ox. Uni. Mus. Nat. Hist. (OUMNH) OUMNH –1967–018 / Tachinidae Chetogena acuminata Rondani 1859, Palaearctic; 1 ♂, syntype (head, thorax and abdomen partially eaten by dermestids, missing left fore-leg) (MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Chetogena acuminata R. 67 ♂ Parma / Coll. CURRENT STATUS: valid species (Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 136, Pape et al. 1995: 17, Cerretti 2010: 106, O’Hara & Cerretti 2016: 120; O’Hara et al. 2020: 385).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 180) described both sexes of Chetogena acuminata without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but presumably from more than one specimen because he indicated: “ non rara [not rare]”. We found eight syntypes in this study.
