Description
Abstract It is an undeniable fact that the holy book, the Quran has texts which commands members of islam not to accept Jews and Christians, or unbelievers as friends, (3:28, 5:51), but we should known that those texts relate only to certain situations and extraordinary. Their application is limited to cases of hypocrisy and betrayal between them (Karic & Čančar, 2011, pp. 128-129). In other cases in the Qur'an there is no pronounced hostility between Muslims and members of the heavenly books (Christians and Jews) except verses that invoke in constructive dialogue or debate. Prophet Muhammad, inspired directly from the Divine came to apply these verses in his life in two stages: during his stay in Makkah and after moving to Medina as a prophet and as a statesman. Migration of Muslims in Abyssinia to Christian King, Special Statute for the monks of the Monastery of Saint Catherine at Mount Sinai, the special Clauses for the Christian people of Najran, the Charter of Medina that included the rights of the Jews of Medina, etc. are arguments that Islam does not stand on the principles of war but emphasizes particularly on cooperation for peace in the world. Key words: Inter-religious dialogue, the Charter of Medina, the Christians of Najran, Migration to Abyssinia.
