Description
“Athena” is the software framework of the ATLAS experiment at CERN. It is used for all stages of the experiment’s workflow:
- the detailed description of the geometry of the detector and its subsystems;
- the reconstruction of physics objects—like tracks or particle jets—from detector measurements;
- the simulation of the detector response to generated events, to study the detector behavior under many different physics scenarios;
- the detailed analysis of interesting events in LHC collision data, targeting the discovery of new particles and fields, and the precise measurements of physics quantities;
- the detailed visualization of the detector geometry and of physics objects and data.
The Athena codebase is designed and contributed by the researchers and the institutes who are members of the ATLAS Collaboration.
