Reconstructing atmospheric circulation and sea-ice extent in the West Antarctic over the past 200 years using data assimilation

This archive contains the climate reconstruction of surface changes in the Antarctic over 1800–2000 CE by combing the isotope-enabled Community Earth System Model with ice core and tree-ring width records through data assimilation. Each NetCDF file corresponds to one variable. For each variable, along with the reconstruction, an estimation of the uncertainty is provided. All fields are anomalies relative to the 1941–1990 CE period. The variables included in the archive are:

ASL-index: Amundsen Sea Low index
BAS-SIE: Sea-ice extent averaged over the Bellingshausen and Amundsen Sea sector
Ross-SIE: Sea-ice extent averaged over the Ross Sea sector
SAM-index: Southern Annular Mode index
SAT: Near-surface air temperature
SIC: Sea-ice concentration
SLP: Sea-level pressure
SNOW-ACC: Snow accumulation
500hpa-ZG: 500-hPa geopotential height
500hpa-AT: 500-hPa atmospheric temperature
700hpa-AT: 700-hPa atmospheric temperature
850hpa-AT: 850-hPa atmospheric temperature
500hpa-Uwind: 500-hPa zonal winds
700hpa-Uwind: 700-hPa zonal winds
850hpa-Uwind: 850-hPa zonal winds
500hpa-Vwind: 500-hPa meridional winds
