Distribution. Western Atlantic— USA (Florida), Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Curacao, Bonaire, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil (Fernando de Noronha, Trindade, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) (Werding et al. 2003; Coelho-Filho 2006; Coelho et al. 2007; Ferreira & Melo 2016; Mendonça et al. 2019).

Remarks. Petrolisthes amoenus occurs on corals, calcareous algae, sponges and under rocks, down to 140 m depth (Haig 1956), and is also found on Halimeda J.V. Lamouroux, 1812 (Chlorophyta) bottoms (Veloso & Melo 1993). The species was collected in São Paulo with colonies of bryozoan S. errata and under rocks in some islands off coast. Alves et al. (2006) reported five individuals (MZUSP 16713) obtained in Ilha da Vitória (São Sebastião) during the Scuba surveys. Sequence accession number (GenBank): CCDB 6518—16S (MW523138).
