Description

Abstract: In the second half of the twentieth century, modern linguistic trends restored the lexicon in the study of compounds and grammar buildings, thus the lexicon has become a branch of linguistics, which studying the specificity of the lexicon units in the language and especially in syntax. These modern linguistic approaches are mainly represented in the lexicon-grammar theory of Mautice Gross, the meaning-text theory of Mel’cuk, and the classes of things theory by Gaston Gross.

These theories, despite their different foundations and principles, are combined by the description of natural langauge through the compilation and description of phenomena and facts that are compositional and semantic within the relationship between the grammar and the lexicon, as well as the attempt to construct a problematic description of the language in a computable form. An explicit scientific description of a language means the construction of an explicit lexicon in which the units of that language combine and control each unit's compositional and semantic properties so that the user of the language can make good use of the units in their explicit or contextual meanings.

Therefore, we will try this work to highlight the use of these lexical approaches in learning Arabic for both its native speakers and non- native speakers through the focus on:

- The importance of re-describing Arabic and the role of description in adapting this language for automatic treatment.

-      To highlight the benefit of this modern lexical approaches to the learning of Arabic and their respective roles in language acquisition by providing practical models in description and classification.

-       The prospects of these theories and their educational dimension in the acquisition of Arabic language, especially in connection with the terminological expressions.

Keywords: description – classification – lexicon units – language – syntax – lexicon – collocations – idiomatic expressions
