A numerical reconstruction of the LGM Rhone Glacier and its ice dynamics

  • 1. ETH Zurich

Description

These datasets are part of chapter 4 in:

The datasets are from ice flow modelling experiments that aimed to reconstruct the Rhone Glacier during the Last Glacial Maximum and how its dynamics and boulder transport evolved. All datasets have a horizontal resolution of 2 km.

The filename indicates the model settings that were used for the climate signal [EPICA], lambda [l2km], sliding parameter [C1=1000Paam-1 | C1=300Paam-1], and climate forcing [LGM+PD]. See table 4.1 in the thesis.

The netcdf datasets contain the following variables:

  • ice thickness (thk)
  • bedrock elevation (topg)
  • surface ice velocity (uvelsurf,vvelsurf)
  • basal ice velocity/sliding velocity (uvelbase,vvelbase)
  • pressure adjusted basal temperature (temppabase)

An animation of the C1=300Paam-1 simulation can watched here.

This project was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (project 200021-162444).
