Lower thermospheric material transport via Lagrangian coherent structures

Description

These data are available for reproducing the work entitled, "Lower thermospheric material transport via Lagrangian coherent structures," in the Journal of Geophysical Research Space Physics.  Files with "FTLE" in the file name contain FTLE maps output from ITALCS as a function of latitude and longitude, as described in the paper.  Files with "WACCMX+DART_UVTZ" in the file name contain the WACCMX+DART horizontal zonal wind (U), meridional wind (V), UTC time (T), and geopotential height (Z) fields as a function of longitude, latitude, pressure level, and time.  All other data sets are available at the sources listed in the acknowledgments of the paper.

SD-WACCMX_v2.1_FTLE_020408_2044_15.62hr_gmh109km.nc contains the finite time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE) map plotted in Figure 2a-b.

SD-WACCMX_v2.1_FTLE_021007_1945_18.04hr_gmh109km.nc contains the FTLE map in Figure 2c-d.

SD-WACCMX_v2.1_FTLE_030116_1539_24.44hr_gmh109km.nc contains the FTLE map in Figure 2e-f.

SD-WACCMX_v2.1_FTLE_060704_1837_24.37hr_gmh109km.nc contains the FTLE map in Figure 3a-b.

WACCMX+DART_FTLE_060704_1837_24.37hr_gmh109km.nc contains the FTLE map in Figure 3c-d.

WACCMX+DART_UVTZ_20060704_1800-20060705_1800_ensmean.nc contains the WACCMX+DART model outputs that are processed as described in the paper to compute the FTLE map shown in Figure 3c-d.  These winds are plotted in Figures 4c,e,f.

WACCMX+DART_UVTZ_20100208_0900-20100209_0900_ensmean.nc contains the WACCMX+DART model outputs that are processed as described in the paper to compute the FTLE map shown in Figure 5c-5f, 6c-6f.  These winds are plotted in Figures 4d,g,h.
