Ixodes kerguelenensis Andre and Colas-Belcour 1942

Description

115. Ixodes kerguelenensis André and Colas-Belcour, 1942.

An Australasian species also known from islands in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans, all of whose parasitic stages have been found on Procellariiformes: Procellariidae, and Sphenisciformes: Spheniscidae; adults and nymphs have been collected from Procellariiformes: Diomedeidae. There are no records of Ixodes kerguelenensis causing human parasitism.

Note: Ixodes kerguelenensis is difficult to identify, with the result that this species has been confused with Ixodes auritulus and Ixodes percavatus, as discussed in Wilson (1970).
