Description

Techno-economic assessment model for H-DRI-EAF based green steel production. These python scrits are part of a research article submitted to the Journal of Energy conversion and management X.

Iron ore could be reduced with 100% hydrogen in a shaft furnace (H2-SF), and converted to steel in an electric arc furnace (EAF) to decarbonise the steel industry. While the technology is promising, availability of large quantities of hydrogen, at a reasonable cost, in the short and medium term could pose a challenge for industrial adoption ofH2-SF-EAF system based steel making. In this work, techno-economic assessment of anH2-SF-EAF system based steel plant, which uses methane pyrolysis for hydrogen production has been conducted. The results are compared with a grid connected low-temperature water electrolysis based H2-SF-EAF system.
