Description

Plumularia insignis Allman, 1883

Material examined: BBB 2016: St. 13; St. 18; St. 21 (MACN-In: 43464, 43465, 43466).

Distribution: This plumularid has been frequently reported in southwestern Atlantic between 35°S to 44°S from 100 to 680 m deep (Genzano et al. 2009; Oliviera et al. 2016). Stepanjants (1979) reported this species from the Patagonian coast with no specific location. Our finding confirms the presence southward to previous records. This the first record in MPA Namuncurá II.

Remarks: Many big, immature and fasciculate colonies were found growing erect on soft bottom by an anchoring system.
