Distribution. Western Atlantic—Bermuda, USA (Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, north of South America, and Brazil (Maranhão, Ceará, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, São Paulo, Santa Catarina). Eastern Atlantic—from Canary Islands to Angola. Central Atlantic—Ascencion and Saint Helena Islands. Indo-West Pacific—Red Sea, Persian Gulf, Thailand, Japan (Rathbun 1937; Barnard 1950; Fausto-Filho 1966; Coelho & Ramos 1972; Powers 1977; Garth 1978; Manning & Holthuis 1981; Abele & Kim 1986; Manning & Chace 1990; Barreto et al. 1993; Taishaku & Konish 1995; Melo 1996; González et al. 2000; Mantelatto & Fransozo 2000; Ng et al. 2002; Dall’Occo et al. 2004; Melo & Veloso 2005; Bouzon & Freire 2007; Almeida & Coelho 2008).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba, comprising Ilha Anchieta (Mantelatto & Fransozo 2000; Bertini et al. 2004, 2010; Mantelatto et al. 2004a; Camargo et al. 2020), Ubatumirim (Bertini et al. 2004; Fransozo et al. 2012). Sequence accession number (GenBank): CCDB 5916—COI (MT623341) (present study).
