Objective: To compare the efficacy of Amoxicillin-Clavulanate and Levofloxacin in the treatment of acute bacterial rhinosinusitis.
Materials & Methods: This comparative study was conducted at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery Civil Hospital, Bahawalpur from January 2017 to June 2017. A total of 360 patients with acute bacterial sinusitis was selected.
Results: In the present study, the mean age of patients in group A was 35.73 ± 7.31 years and in the group, B was 35.91 ± 8.24 years. Out of these 360 patients, 143 (39.72%) were male and 217 (60.28%) were females. Efficacy was seen as yes in 172 (95.56%) patients in group B (Levofloxacin group) group A (Amoxicillin-clavulanate group) and 146 (81.11%) patients with a p-value of 0.000.
Conclusion: Findings of this study revealed that levofloxacin has better efficacy and cost-effectiveness than amoxicillin-clavulanate in the treatment of acute bacterial rhinosinusitis in terms of signs and symptoms of relief.
