“Pongo questa specie sulla fede del Karakin il quale dice che si distingue dalla precedente per «il corpo più lungo, il dorso meno verdastro, la mascella inferiore più piccola e la pinna dorsale più vicina alla testa».

L’ A. lanceolatus distinguesi a prima vista dalla specie precedente perchè la mascella superiore non è protrattile, il vomere è armato di due denti ricurvi, l’inserzione della dorsale è posta dopo quella della pettorale e non esistono macchie rosso-rame nella regione anale.”

- I place this species on the faith of Karakin who says that it is distinguished from the previous one by «longer body, less greenish back, smaller lower jaw, and dorsal fin closest to the head».

A. lanceolatus distinguished at first sight from the previous species because the upper jaw is not protractile, the vomer is armed with two curved teeth, the insertion of the dorsal fin is placed after that of the pectoral fin, and there are no red-copper spots in the anal region.
