  • 1. New Sorbonne University Paris 3

Description

This talk discusses the distinctive features, articulatory gestures and phonation types in Hadza, Iraqw and Datooga. It presents an articulatory and acoustic description of bilabial, dental, alveolar and lateral clicks, and the expression of glottal, nasal and aspirated features. The goal is to describe Hadza clicks in terms of gestures and distinctive features, and to evaluate the acoustic similarities between clicks and ejectives. The data comes primarily from Hadza, which was collected in the field using EVA, EGG, HS Camera and palatography. Some comparitive data from Iraqw and Datooga is included in the talk.
