Panoramic Study: ``$\alpha$-Methyldopa Synthesis''

This work presents the panoramic study of the patenting of the synthesis of the active principle $\alpha$-methyldopa, with the objective of evaluating and analyzing the routes and precursors used in said synthesis, in response to a need of the national pharmaceutical sector in the production of essential drugs. The methodology used consisted of an exhaustive search on the Patentinspiration platform using a search equation, which yielded twelve patents of interest strictly referring to the synthesis of $\alpha$-methyldopa. The results show how patenting has evolved over time, as well as the main countries involved in its synthesis, where China, followed by Germany, represents the leadership in the matter. In addition, a summary is presented of the main pharmaceutical companies or companies dedicated to the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) that have patented the synthesis of the compound, in particular Zhenjiang University and researchers. The research carried out mentions the precursors used in the production schemes, among these are: ketones, nitriles, hydantoin, oxazolidone, aldehydes, natural compounds such as eugenol; as well as the types of synthesis to obtain it, traditional chemical synthesis and microwave irradiation.
