"Le jeu de la Basilinda et autres pratiques ludiques de harcèlement dans l'Onomasticon de Pollux"

Description

Among the plays described by Pollux in his Onomasticon or Dictionnary several ludic practices are characterised by violent components and correspond to the modern notion of bullying. This is the case of basilinda, the king’s play, of chytrinda, the pot’s play, and of chalkê muia, the fly of bronze, a hide-and-seek play. These games must be replaced in the context of ancient ludic culture. They throw light on some specific issues without forgetting the close connection between play (paidia) and education (paideia).
