Description

This article analyzes the strategies of language use in the sense-making process regarding the impeachment process of President Dilma Rousseff, in 2016. However, this event has been characterized as a political, legal and media blow against the Brazilian democratic institutions. Thus, the general objective is to analyze the linguistic resources that constituted the 2016 Golpe's legitimation media discourse, in Veja magazine in view of the identificational meaning, with the evaluation occurrences. In order to achieve this objective, it is specifically intended to describe, identify and compare the discursive practices of legitimation of this media political event. Therefore, the main theoretical reference is Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), as well as a multidisciplinary dialogue with the thinking of Social Science theorists such as Jessé de Souza. Appropriating the theoretical and methodological framework of Critical Discourse Analysis, this work assumes a qualitative and interpretative nature. The corpus selected for the research consists of an opinion article circulated by the hegemonic mainstream media, especially during the period during which President Dilma Rousseff's impediment process lasted. In the end, the main reflections point to the understanding that the Brazilian media effectively contributed to the legitimation of the 2016 coup, in view of the political ideologies of the right and the thinking of the large corporations that guided their condemnatory stance regarding the petist governments.
