Plans for root scanning trays to use on flatbed scanners

  • 1. Noble Research Institute

Description

These are plans for assembling root scanning trays from clear acrylic 3 mm panels. These can be assembled yourself by using acrylic cement, which chemically fuses the acrylic pieces and creates a waterproof join.

The large format tray is intended for use on large format scanners (A3 paper size) such as the Epson Expression 12000XL with a transparency unit. It measures 420 mm x 300 mm.

The small format tray is intended for use on small format scanners (letter paper size) such as the Epson Perfection v850 with a transparency unit. It measures 280 mm x 210 mm.

TAP Plastics in the United States provides services to cut plastic pieces only or to assemble entire units, and their representative has agreed to accept quote requests from the root research community for pre-assembled trays. You may e-mail your desired tray's plan as PDF to:

I have no affiliation or financial arrangements with any of the mentioned companies. I can only verify I have purchased these items and used them successfully to scan roots for image analysis using RhizoVision Explorer. I imply no guarantee or warranty for the suitability in your own project.

If you publish research using data collected after using these trays, please cite these plans:
