The costs of climate change for the tourism sector: A review

Description

The most important effects of Climate Change on coastal and maritime areas come from the sea level rise (SLR), the changes in water and air temperatures, the increased frequency of extreme events (rainstorms, windstorms, heat waves, etc.) and other climatic features. They all have environmental physical impacts (e.g. beach surface reduction, increased risks of forest fires, etc.) which affect the image and atractiveness of tourism destinations and the quality of the tourist experience, from the demand side, and on touristic activities and facilities, on the supply side.

The factsheet presents some of the results obtained from a review of the existing literature regarding the economic valuation of climate change risks for the tourism activity.
