Myxasteridae

Description

MYXASTERIDAE

The Myxasteridae is a family of exclusively abyssal velatid asteroids which includes three taxa, two multi-armed genera Asthenactis and Myxaster and the five-armed Pythonaster, which are known from deep-sea settings in the Pacific and the Atlantic. Recent overviews of this rarely encountered family of asteroids are found in Mah et al. (2012) and Alton (1966).
