Ganadería de alta montaña en la Edad Media: el caso de Cangas del Narcea, Asturias. Arqueología y Territorio 9: 183-197
Description
This paper attempts to make an approach to the stockbreeding world of high mountain areas during the middle ages through archaeology, and, especially, agrarian archaeology. To do this we will rely on archaeological survey work carried out in the town of Cangas del Narcea, e where different types of transhumance have coexisted at different levels: valley herding, carried out by the farmers in the villages, medium distance herding also known as trastermitancia carried out by different people, such as the so called Vaqueiros d´alzada, and of long distance herding, also known as La Mesta, carried out by shepherds from the Meseta.
