Database searching in systems without a genome: lessons learned with the California sea lion
Description
Matrix Science breakfast seminar given at ASMS 2019 in Atlanta, GA on June 3, 2019. This was an informal presentation about how to perform shotgun proteomic analysis in organisms without annotated genomes. Using published work performed on the California sea lion between 2010 and 2017 as an example, I walked through findings that at the time were made using database homology searching and compared it with re-analysis using the annotated genome released in December 2018.
