(C) dense gemmuloscleres tangentially arranged at the outer surface. (D) gemmular theca (cross-section) with multilayered gemmuloscleres (pneumatic layer is absent). (E–G) smooth oxeas as skeletal megascleres (A–D, SEM; E–G, LM).
