Description

The detailed meteorological and drifting snow data proposed in this dataset were acquired in the framework of an extensive drifting snow observation campaign that was initiated in January 2010 on the marginal slopes of Adelie Land, East Antarctica. With strong, frequent and persistent katabatic winds occurring year long, the measurement area is among the most prone to snow transport by wind on the ice sheet. Available data collected almost continuously at a half-hourly resolution at two locations 100 km apart include 2-m wind speed and direction, 2-m air temperature, 2-m air relative humidity with respect to ice and drifting snow mass fluxes. The data files contain the following variables and units:

YYYY: year; MM: month;  DD: day; hh: hour; mm: minute; U2m: 2-m wind speed (m/s):  zU: actual height of the anemometer (m);  T2m: 2-m air temperature (° C);  RH2m: 2-m air relative humidity (% w.r.i.); zT: actual height of the thermo-hygrometer (m); FC1: drifting snow flux from lower level (g m-2 s-1); FC2: drifting snow flux from upper level (g m-2 s-1);  zFC1: actual top height above ground of the lower FlowCapt sensor (m).
