Yonsei University surface layer (YSL) scheme version 1.0
Description
Yonsei University surface layer (YSL) scheme (v1.0) is the first surface layer parameterization, which is incorporating the roughness sublayer concept in the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF v3.7.1). The roughness sublayer is one compartment of the surface layer where turbulence deviates from Monin–Obukhov similarity theory. However, it has not been explicitly simulated in atmospheric mesoscale models. To incorporate roughness sublayer in the WRF model, YSL scheme is developed based on the roughness sublayer concept of Harman and Finnigan (2007, 2008) and Harman (2012). The overestimated wind speed is alleviated with YSL scheme, including bias in temperature and precipitation.
The model development and validation are presented in:
Junhong Lee, Jinkyu Hong, Yign Noh, and Pedro A. Jimenez: Implementation of a roughness sublayer parameterization in the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF version 3.7.1) and its evaluation for regional climate simulations, Geosci. Model Dev., 13, 521–536, 2020.
