Within the framework of informatization of education in the scientific and methodological literature, there is a conceptual dissonance associated with the content of the categories "information literacy", "information competence", "information culture".
The purpose of the article is the terminological analysis of the concepts of "information literacy", "information competence", "information culture" according to the interpretations of national and foreign researchers.
The structural chain of educational performance is most accurately reflected in the following hierarchical sequence: literacy – competence – culture.
Information literacy is the knowledge and skills necessary to correctly identify the information needed to complete a task or problem; effective search for information, its organization and reorganization; interpretation and analysis of the information found and extracted; assessing the accuracy and reliability of information; if necessary – transferring and presenting the results of analysis and interpretation to other persons; the subsequent use of information to take action and to achieve certain results.
Information competence is the ability of the individual to navigate the flow of information, the ability to work with different types of information, find and select the necessary material, classify it, summarize, critical of it, on the basis of the acquired knowledge to solve any information problem related to professional activity, ability to use computer technology in professional activity and daily life.
Teacher information culture is an integrated personal formation, which is a system of value orientations, knowledge, skills and skills of forming the need for information, searching for the necessary information from the whole set of information resources, selecting, evaluating, preserving the information found, integrating, structuring and creating new information, presentations to students based on their age characteristics.
The prospect of further scientific exploration is the study of the content of a new category – the visual and information culture, which is generated by the phenomena of "visualization" and "informatization".
