Research data management training in University of Eastern Finland

This poster gives an overview on research data management (RDM) training in University of Eastern Finland (UEF). Firstly, upskilling the library staff has been crucial to take on the new data related tasks. Librarians have enhanced their data skills in national and international seminars, trainings and with open materials. Collaborative training and learning has been significant in the process of learning.   

The library has strongly focused on improving research data services and data skills of librarians in recent years. Some of the library work has been reorganised and teamed up, also some new recruitments were made related to open science and open research data. Research Support Team specialises in offering services to researchers. Research data management is also increasingly included in the work of subject librarians.  

In order to improve open science and data management skills, the library offers training to the university staff and students. In collaboration with IT services library offers RDM training for researchers. We offer data management plan training online and workshops on campus. In these trainings we go through the main contents of data management plan and UEF guidelines to data management. We also offer training on how to open research data. In trainings we use activating methods and tools to activate researchers to share their questions, problems they have encountered and also the good practices of RDM. For doctoral students library offers Research Information Retrieval and Management Course where one of the seven modules concentrates on research data management. This course introduces the basics of RDM and teaches how to write data management plan. Study material is openly available online: bit.ly/reinre. At the moment we plan a course for master degree students where RDM will be included. We invite poster viewers to contribute their thoughts on what aspects of RDM are essential for master degree students.
