Material examined. TALUD XV, St. 10 (24º20'42"N, 112º44'48"W), Jul 29, 2012, 1 juv. (CL 19 mm), BS operated at 2088–2125 m (ICML-EMU-12305).

Distribution. Semi-cosmopolitan, between 66°N and 48°S; Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans (Ibarra Rivera & Hendrickx 2008). According to Ibarra Rivera & Hendrickx (2008 ), G. gigas is commonly found in the California Current area. It is herein reported from a single locality along the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula (Fig. 6), which is less than expected.

Remarks. The rarity of specimens in the samples obtained off western Baja California contrasts with results obtained by Ibarra Rivera & Hendrickx (2008) who reported material from nine localities in the California Current area. These localities, however, were mostly further away from the coast line than in the present study (Fig. 5).
