Cleotomiris Schuh

Description

Cleotomiris Schuh

(Figs. 3, 4, 5 A–C, 6, 8, 9, 12)

Cleotomiris Schuh, 1984: 81 (n. gen., invalid name as type species not designated).

Cleotomiris Schuh, in Kerzhner & Schuh, 1995: 8, type species by subsequent designation: C.schneirlai Schuh, 1984; Schuh, 1995: 211 (cat.); Kerzhner & Josifov, 1999: 277 (cat.); Yasunaga, 2001: 146 (diag.).

Diagnosis. Recognized by the antlike appearance, small to moderate size, brown to fuscous basic coloration, more or less terete antennal segments II–IV, weakly swollen, trapezoidal pronotum that is not much constricted anteriorly, earlike ostiolar peritreme, a conspicuous white fascia on the clavus just posterior to the scutellum, weakly fleshy, apically convergent parempodia, and short endosoma with an apical spine of various length and a developed secondary gonopore. Further diagnostic characters and detailed description were provided by Schuh (1984).

Discussion. Although this genus is superficially similar to Cleotomiroides Schuh, the male and female genitalic structures of these genera are significantly different each other. The general shape of the female genitalia of Cleotomiris rather resembles that of Wygomiris.

Schuh (1984) suggested the presence of two undescribed species of Cleotomiris from Peninsular Malaysia (Selangor) and N Thailand (Chiang Mai); the specimens from Thailand may correspond to a species described below (C. yamadakazi). Cleotomiris comprises six nominal species now known from the Sundaland west of the Wallacea, Indochina, SE China and Japanese Ryukyus.
