Acutihumerus

Description

Genus Acutihumerus

Diagnosis. Rostrum bilobated. Pereonites two-six with one small dentiform apophysis in each corner, antero- and posterolaterally. Cheliped and pereopod 1 without exopodite. Female cheliped slender. Pereopod 1 with a large spiniform coxa; dactylus with some distal simple and long setae, and an obvious claw. Dactylus of the pereopods 3–6 with one long setiform prolongation and some short setae subterminaly; unguis absent. Pleon with several setae. Males with dimorphic cheliped, having a small carpus and a very large propodus.

Gender: masculine.

Type species: Acutihumerus cavooreni (Băcescu & Absalao, 1985)

Generic remarks. Guţu (2006) errected the monotypic genus Acutihumerus to accomodate Hemikalliapseudes cavooreni which he removed from the Hemikalliapseudes. The author justified this on the basis of a smaller sensory apparatus of the pereopod 1 dactylus (having subterminal aesthetascs instead of terminal ones). The presence of spines on the corners of pereonite 2–6 is also considered diagnostic by Guţu although this character is also found in Hemikalliapseudes hanstroemi.

Guţu (2006) consider Bacescapseudes patagoniensis Sieg, 1986 for synonomus with Acutihumerus cavooreni but we do not agree with this synonymization (see discussion).
