Visual Analytics and Virtual Reality for data analysis
Creators
Description
In the last few years INAF-OACT developed a Visual Analytics environment based on VisIVO for the study of star-forming regions on our Galaxy. This allows an integrated analysis and exploitation of the combination of all new-generation surveys (from infrared to radio) from space missions and ground-based facilities, using a novel data and science analysis paradigm based on 2D/3D visualization and data mining frameworks.
The pilot development of VR tool for SKA precursor data (in cooperation with Inter-University Institute for Data Intensive Astronomy - IDIA) allow scientists to navigate inside HI datacubes (e.g MeerKAT HI cubes) to validate the result of automated source finding (e.g performed by SOFIA, which is the reference software for source extraction of the HI community at large), such that a user can check whether some real emission was missed, or some detections are not real.
